“Factory Man” battles through adversity to save grandpa’s company

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – During the 20th century, southern Virginia was home to the world's biggest wood furniture manufacturer. But in the 1980's, competition in Asia hit and forced at least seven factories to shut down. During that time, one man fought back to protect his grandpa's factory.

Beth Macy tells the story of the man and his battle against the globalization of American furniture in her latest book “Factory Man.”

Chairman of Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Company John Bassett III visited Fox 4 to talk about the book and how Tom Hanks will be producing a mini-series to air on HBO that is based on his life and the book “Factory Man.”
