KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Warm weather is in store for the holiday weekend, so why not cool off with a fun and festive beverage. Mary Rodriguez of Diamond Girls Bartenders shared some great recipes for both adults and kids.

Bombsicle (non-alcoholic)

1 cup red cranapple juice
1 cup pina colada flavored drink
1 cup blue G2 Gatorade

Fill your glass 1/3 of the way with CranApple juice, fill to the top with ice, slowly pour the remaining drinks directly on top of a piece of ice (this helps it layer rather than mix). This is a fun drink to serve the kids as the gatorade will hydrate them with the 4th of July heat.

Watermelon Margarita (Alcoholic)

1 pound of seedless watermelon, rind removed, cut into 1 inch cubes
1/2 tsp superfine sugar
3 ounces tequila
2 basil leaves
2 mint leaves
1 1/2 ounce Cointreau

  • Cut the watermelon into 1 inch cubs, put 1/2 on a baking sheet lined with wax paper – freeze
  • Mix the other 1/2 with 1/2 tsp of superfine sugar, puree in a food processor and strain (you can do the above two steps beforehand)
  • In a shaker muddle 2 mint and 2 basil leaves with 2 ounces of silver tequila
  • Add ice, Cointreau and watermelon puree, shake and strain into margarita glass filled with frozen watermelon cubs
    Garnish with more fresh herbs
