- THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL(PG)
20th Century Fox
The comic drama "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel," which focused on British retirees in India, was a surprise smash hit back in 2012. While it was made for under $10 million, it grossed over $160 million at the worldwide box office. That could only mean one thing: "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel."
Not sure it was a smash hit. Nonetheless, the follow-up, “The Second Best Marigold Hotel” will have a hard time filling in its footsteps. Mostly because it’s not as charming.
Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith return and they’re joined by young buck Richard Gere, playing folks who occupy a rooming house for the elderly and beautiful in Jaipur. The script is strictly stale naan bread, but the capable cast helps turn it into spicy curry. While it’s all very soapy and silly, the underserved 50-and-over demographic may enjoy this sweet-natured return visit to the land of seven rivers.
Why you gotta be old to enjoy “The Second Best Marigold Hotel?” I believe it will appeal to general audiences of all ages. Actually refreshing to see something with no explosions, deaths, gratuitious nudity and fart jokes. It’s called wholesome quality entertainment.

- EX MACHINA(R)
There’s nothing artificial about the intelligence of “Ex Machina,” a thought provoking and unsettling sci-fi thriller that plays like something Stanley Kubrick might have made out of "Bride of Frankenstein." An eccentric billionaire constructs an artificially intelligent being. A naïve programmer is brought to his remote lab to test the beautiful robot. But who is manipulating whom?
This top notch deconstruct on our shaky relationship with robots is brilliant and near perfect but a bit odd.
Beautifully acted and stylishly filmed, “Ex Machnia” is a whip-smart and involving movie that raises intriguing moral questions about technology and sexism.
It is very intellectually stimulating cinema. It’s the rare film that will create plenty of chatter after watching and one of the better movies so far this year.

3) IT FOLLOWS (R)
“It Follows” is a chilling low-budget horror entry about a homicidal supernatural entity that stalks teens after intimate physical encounters. While not completely successful, “It Follows” is an original and unsettling creepfest.
