SEDALIA, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Transportation is asking drivers to use a 'merge technique' that may not be popular among some drivers. At 65 Highway and I-70 near Sedalia, construction work has the highway down to one lane.

The backup is significant, causing a delay of at least 45 minutes during the day.

MoDOT is asking drivers to use the zipper merge if they're traveling this route. That means using both lanes until you get to where it's closed. Then merge at that point, in alternating fashion.

MoDOT says it will save time by 40 to 50 percent. Watch the video explanation from FOX 4's Nick Vasos in the player above and share with non-zipper mergers.
