SHAWNEE, Kan. -- A water main break is causing drivers in Shawnee to find a new route along their early morning commute Wednesday.

The break is at 68th Terrace and Midland Drive near the Tomahawk Woods neighborhood.

Mary Cawby with Water One say the water main break is a 16-inch break. Water crews were able to shut off the valve just before 8 a.m. so they could start making repairs. Cawby wasn't sure how long it would take crews to make repairs.

Cawby says the water shut off could affect nearly a dozen homes.

The two homes closest to the break were not affected.

The road is expected to be closed until Thursday afternoon. Cars were being told to turn around and take a detour.

The road near the break is buckled and water was covering the roadway for nearly two hours.
