Man accused of swinging ax at neighbors charged

SHAWNEE, Kan. — The man who is accused of swinging an ax at his neighbors was charged on Monday.

Anthony Townsend, 28, of Shawnee was charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one charge of aggravated burglary.

Townsend was taken into police custody on Saturday.

Police responded just before noon to an area near 64th and Monticello in Shawnee. Two people went to the hospital because of the incident.

When officers arrived, they saw the suspect walking from his neighbor’s house back to his own. Police say it is unclear what started the fight.

Both victims are in stable condition and expected to recover from their injuries.
