Street sweeper killed crossing railroad tracks on Fort Leavenworth property

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — Union Pacific Railroad is investigating the death of a street sweeper Tuesday morning, who was hit by a train as he was attempting to cross the tracks in the vehicle at about 6:00 a.m.

The man was employed by a contractor working on the airfield at Fort Leavenworth, repairing recent flood damage.

Authorities had not released his name Tuesday afternoon.
