KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A former teacher in the North Kansas City School District is now charged with rape and child molestation.

Samuel Waltemath was a teacher at Northgate Middle school when rumors started to fly. He was fired soon after and turned himself into police on Thursday.

FOX 4's Megan Brilley spoke with parents, disgusted with the news.

The once 'fun' science teacher is now behind bars, facing statutory rape and child molestation in the first degree.

FOX 4's Megan Brilley knocked on Samuel Waltemath's door on Thursday, and while he's in jail, his roommate and long-time friend answered. Waltemath's roommate claims he had no idea he was even accused of wrongdoing. He says Waltemath told him he quit because he wasn't offered tenure, but in reality Waltemath was fired from his teaching position at Northgate Middle School after an investigation began.

We do not yet know the details surrounding that investigation.

Waltemath's roommate said he found out all of this when the 31-year-old texted him to make sure the bills were paid because he was turning himself into custody Thursday.
