KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A local school is getting a new playground  designed for kids with special needs and will celebrate the new addition with a special ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning.

The ribbon cutting is set for 9 a.m. at the Sherwood Center, which is near 80th and Ward Parkway Plaza.

The ribbon cutting will show off all the hard work that volunteers have been doing to make their specialized playground a reality.

The center specializes in helping children and adults with autism and other disabilities and currently has more than 50 students.

Recently the center relocated to the former Calvary Lutheran School. The moved allowed them to have an art room, music room, cafeteria, gym and now a playground.
