30-year-old man drowns in Kansas lake

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Kan. – A man drowned Saturday night after he went underwater while boating with friends.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said deputies retrieved the body of 30-year-old Jeremy Welch, of Bonner Springs, shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday night from Perry Lake.

Welch died due to drowning. The sheriff says that a search for Welch started just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening after Welch went boating with friends at Perry Lake and reportedly went under.

So far no other details have been released.
