KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Royals (84-57) have a chance to win the three game series in Baltimore Sunday night, and they can thank Mike Moustakas for that.

‘Moose’ had a monster game Saturday. Not only that, it was one of the greatest single-game performances in Royals history. He hit a game-tying two run single, crushed a grand slam and a added a three run homer in the ninth. His nine RBI broke a franchise record. Nine RBI is a pretty good week. Nine in one game? That’s crazy! The Royals needed every one of those runs to beat Baltimore 14-6.

Sunday’s series finale starts at 7:00 on ESPN. Johnny Cueto will face Baltimore’s Wei-Yin Chen.

Kansas City has an 11 game lead over the Twins in the American League Central. The real race right now is for the best record in the American League, and it’s becoming too close for comfort.

Saturday’s win was just the second in the Royals’ last eight games. Their current slump has allowed the red-hot Blue Jays to close the gap for home field advantage in the playoffs to 2.5 games with 21 games to go. The Blue Jays swept a double-header from the Yankees Saturday. Had the Royals lost, the Jays could’ve pulled within 1.5 games.

Hopefully Saturday’s win snapped the Royals out of their recent funk. If not, Toronto could unseat them from atop the American League soon.
