KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City, Mo. fire crews battled a large house fire Tuesday morning. The fire erupted in a home in the 700 block of N. Prospect just before 6 a.m., and flames could be seen shooting from the home and thick smoke filled nearby streets.

Around 6:30 a.m. fire crews had taken control of the fire.

FOX 4 's Matt Stewart reported that a man  was asleep inside of the home when he heard about five pops and looked up to see that the back door was on fire. The man says he was able to wake up the other two other people who live in the home, and they were all able to make it out safely.

One firefighter on scene was overcome by smoke, but did not require significant medical treatment.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
