Cyclist in critical condition after vehicle strikes him and flees the scene

SHAWNEE, Kan. -- Police are investigating after a cyclist was struck and injured Wednesday morning.

Police say the accident happened around 5:22 a.m.

According to officers, Steve McCrary was biking west on Shawnee Mission Parkway near Vista when a driver struck and injured him.

Sgt. Tom Lynch says McCrary was transported to the hospital to be treated for his injuries, where doctors have listed him in critical condition.

Officers are still searching for the vehicle that struck McCrary. Witnesses told police the white truck, which they believe will have front-end damage, continued driving west on Shawnee Mission Parkway.
