KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Royals fans in search of the hottest ticket in town have their work cut out for them. That's because the team does not have any tickets to sell at the box office for playoff games that begin Thursday night.

Quite a few disappointed fans showed up at the stadium box office Wednesday, hoping to buy tickets to Thursday night's game.

But just because tickets are not being sold at Kauffman Stadium does not mean they are not available.

The Royals are recommending that fans first look to where any tickets returned by teams or Major League Baseball can be sold on short notice.

If that doesn't work turn to Stub Hub, the only online site endorsed by Major League Baseball.

"Presently right now we are sold out," said Steve Shiffman, the Royals director of ticket sales. "That's why I said check with You never know when some tickets will come back from the team, especially now that Houston is officially in there. They might not be using all their tickets. Some tickets might come back through the system and they get put right online."

About 2,000 standing room tickets also are sold out for these playoff games. That's the same number as last year.

If you don't have success online, Shiffman says you can try a reputable ticket broker, someone with a storefront in the metro area.

Unfortunately, there are always fans who spend hundreds of dollars on fraudulent tickets, and there's nothing the team can do when they are turned away at the gate.
