JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. -- Two people were killed in an accident on Interstate 35 on Wednesday night. The Kansas Highway Patrol confirms the accident happened near 207th Street at about 8 p.m.

The accident was a rollover crash where the southbound traveling vehicle crossed the median and both victims were ejected. A second vehicle was then involved in the crash as well, but no one suffered injuries in that vehicle.

25-year-old Ashley Towner of Wellsville, Kan.,  died along with 6-year-old Ilana Towner.

Police say it appears a booster seat was in the vehicle, but it wasn't properly secured.

I-35 was closed in both directions into the early morning hours of Thursday while officers investigated and crews cleaned up the debris.
