PAOLA, Kan. – The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday units from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Osawatomie Fire, Fontana Fire, and Miami County Emergency Medical Services, were dispatched to 391st Street and Lone Star Road regarding an injury accident with a motorcycle.

Upon arrival at the scene, it was determined that a woman, identified as 60-year-old Brenda Boehm of Mapleton, Kan., was driving a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle west bound on 391st Street, when she braked to avoid an oncoming vehicle turning north on to Lone Star from 391st street.

Investigators say there was no contact with the oncoming vehicle, but Boehm lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected from the bike onto the pavement. Boehm suffered head trauma and died at the scene.

Investigators say Boehm was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
