Cass County deputies shoot armed man

CASS COUNTY, Mo. – A shooting suspect is in critical condition after being shot several times by Cass County deputies.

On Friday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were called to a residence in the 33000 block of East 355th Street in rural Dayton, Missouri about 20 miles south of Harrisonville after it was reported that the suspect shot at the reporting party.

When deputies arrived at the home they contacted the suspect who was armed with a rifle.  Deputies asked the man to surrender peacefully, but the suspect shot at the deputies.  Deputies returned fire and the man was struck several times.

The suspect was the only person injured during the exchange of gunfire.  He was flown to a Kansas City area hospital where he is being treated for his injuries and is listed in critical condition.

The deputies involved are on routine administrative paid leave.
