Memorial service for firefighters Leggio and Mesh to be held at Sprint Center on Saturday

Memorial Service

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The city-wide, public memorial service to honor fallen firefighters Larry J. Leggio and John V. Mesh will be at the Sprint Center on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m., the city announced on Wednesday.

The public memorial service will be hosted by IAFF Local 42. Traffic surrounding the Sprint Center along Grand Blvd. and Truman Rd., will be closed. Grand Blvd. will be closed and only one lane will be open on the north side of Truman Rd. going west. If you plan on going to the memorial, consider arriving early. There will be a drop off location on the oak street side of the building. Residents are advised to follow detours, as posted. Traffic for memorial

Doors are scheduled to open 60 minutes prior to the start of the public memorial service. Additional details regarding the memorial service will be released as they are finalized.

A fund to support the families of fallen firefighters is available through IAFF Local 42. Tax-deductible donations will be given to the families of firefighters Leggio and Mesh.  Donations can be made by check, payable to IAFF Local 42 and should be sent to 6320 Manchester Ave., Suite 42A; Kansas City, Mo. 64133. Sympathy cards may also be mailed to the same address.

Prohibited Items: Backpacks, pocket knives, selfie sticks, tablet computers larger than 7″ and outside food or beverages are not allowed in Sprint Center. Guests are encouraged to pack lightly and arrive early to ensure a timely entry. Professional cameras, detachable lenses, and video/audio recording are not permitted.
