BELTON, Mo. — Police evacuated dozens of people from their apartment homes Sunday afternoon after officers found a suspicious package in someone’s car.

Belton police stopped a driver at 1710 Lakewood Terrace, at the Lakewood Terrace Apartment Complex. Officers arrested the people in the car and searched the trunk. That’s when they found what they’re calling a “suspicious package.”

Raymore Police, Cass County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Kansas City Bomb and Arson investigators were on scene.

Police said, “the contents of the package is unknown,” but neighbors told Fox 4 that deputies evacuated several apartments because of explosives.

Krystal Sehorn lives in the building that police evacuated. She said, “I looked outside. The whole parking lot was surrounded by sheriff’s [deputies] and the Kansas City bomb squad. They taped off the whole section. It’s very concerning being that this whole apartment has so many children, and that it’s so nice today that they’re all outside playing.”

Sehorn told Fox 4 she watched officers put a man into the back of a police car, but investigators haven’t confirmed whether they’ve arrested anyone.
