LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — An attempted vehicle stop for suspected DWI led a Lee’s Summit police officer to the discovery of a dead body in the passenger seat of a car on early Sunday morning. The driver led the officer to an apartment complex in the 500 block of SE 2nd Street just after 1 a.m. where he and another man ran from the vehicle. The officer lost sight of them after a brief foot chase, and found the homicide victim in the car when he returned to investigate.
FOX 4 has learned the victim is 43-year-old Tanya Chamberlain of Lee’s Summit.
Sgt. Chris Depue outlined what happens next for police. Depue said, “Right now, what detectives are doing is pouring over that mountain of physical evidence, electronic evidence, that we have to track down. For us, it’s really about building that timeline. We take that victim and just start working backwards and then we try to intersect that timeline where our victim met our suspects and then we go from there.”
Below are surveillance photos of the two suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
