Alex Rios and Jeremy Guthrie become free agents

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Outfielder Alex Rios and right-handed pitcher Jeremy Guthrie joined the free-agent list on Wednesday.

The Kansas City Royals declined the mutual options for both Rios and Guthrie.

Starting Friday at 11 p.m., both players will be free to sign with any club.

The Royals reserve list has 33 players. Left-handed pitchers Tim Collins and Brian Flynn and Jason Vargas remain on the 60-day disabled list.

Rios’s option was valued at $12.5MM, with a $1.5MM buyout, while Guthrie will receive a $3.2MM buyout on a $10MM option, MLB Trade Rumors reports.
