KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- KC Pet Project is celebrating Black Friday all weekend long. The shelter is offering all pets to be adopted for half of the normal price.

“It just affords the average person the opportunity to come out and pick a dog and help a dog in need,” said Ben Plank, who adopted a golden retriever mix. “He is the sweetest thing I have ever met.”

The special runs through Sunday at 5 p.m. when the shelter closes.

“It’s so hard to pick one but I think I picked the one I want,” said Marsha Brown, who adopted a 2-year-old Chihuahua named Heidi. “She seems to be really, really friendly and that’s what I need.”

Brown said her old Chihuahua passed away two years ago and it was time to welcome a new member into her family.
