One killed, many injured when tire blows on van in Miami County

MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. -- The Kansas Highway Patrol confirms one person died in an accident at 383rd Street and US 69 Highway.  The victim is Bradley Cox, 47, of Independence.

According to the accident report released Saturday night, Cox was driving a 2001 Ford van when his right, rear tire blew, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The van went across the lane and into the median, rolling multiple times. It then came to rest on its top in the northbound lane.

The accident occurred Saturday evening and the highway was shutdown in both directions.

Several others were in the van at the time, including a number of children. Cox and all his passengers were wearing seatbelts.
