OLATHE, Kan. – Two young girls were reunited with their parents after an AMBER Alert was issued on Tuesday night. The search began around 6 p.m. at a tire shop near West Elm and South Kansas Avenue; police found the girls about two hours later a half-mile away.
An alert witness noticed a man trying to drive away with a car from an used car lot close to Tim’s Tire Center. When the suspect ditched his attempt at stealing the car, the witness followed him as he headed toward the tire store.
The girls' father told investigators that he worked at the tire shop and had run inside for a minute or two and when he returned the car with his two little girls was gone.
Olathe police released surveillance from the tire store where the 6 and 2-year-old girls were kidnapped.
The suspect jumped into a running SUV and drove away. Another man tried to stop him, but was not successful.
Police found the SUV two hours later parked at a retirement home nearby. The two little girls were still in the backseat, unharmed.
The suspect had long left the scene and police spend the overnight hours processing the car, hoping to find a clue that will lead them to this suspect.
"For what he knows, the older one wasn’t able to say anything because she fell asleep while everything happened," a translators said of father Luis Fragoso.
The father says he is grateful to be reunited with his daughters.
“Him and his wife were very happy that they were safe," the translator said for Fragoso.
A white male suspect in his 40’s remains on the run. If you have any information about the suspected kidnapper, call Olathe police at (913) 971-7500.
