KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Her jailed husband is charged with assaulting her and torturing his 7-year-old, missing son who`s feared dead. Now, Heather Jones is speaking about the case and investigation for the first time.

Heather Jones says her husband Michael was a violent man and she was afraid to leave him. Without a doubt, she says he killed his missing son.

"I was scared to death of Michael. I lived a life of hell trying to protect my children," she told FOX 4's Robert Townsend.

The Joneses have been married for nine years. Michael is in the Wyandotte County jail charged with child abuse, aggravated battery and aggravated assault.

Last Wednesday, KCK police went to the couple’s home to investigate an armed disturbance.

Speaking publicly for the first time and only to FOX 4, Heather says Michael, armed with a gun, grazed her arm during a fight and threatened to kill her.

“I said, ‘I can’t do this anymore Mike. I’m done; you gotta go let me leave with my girls,'” she said.

While checking out the domestic violence call, cops say they made an awful discovery. They found human remains in a livestock pen behind the couple`s home.

Forensic experts are now trying to determine whether the remains are Michael Jones’ missing 7- year-old son, and Heather`s stepson, a boy prosecutors call “AJ.”

While Michael Jones is charged with torturing his son, he hasn’t been charged with any crime related to the possible death of AJ. Heather says she told detectives that Michael repeatedly beat her and that he killed his son late in the summer, and disposed of the boy`s body in the livestock pen.

“He passed away in his sleep, but it was from injuries that he had sustained from getting beaten,” Heather said.

Heather says she was out of town at the time of the child`s gruesome murder, but later saw Michael committing the crime on surveillance video. The couple`s home has several security cameras.
