Man, 26, shot, killed when he breaks into Independence home of two people he knows

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Independence Police are investigating a shooting in the 600 block of E. Lexington, in a home near the intersection of Lexington and Strode.

According to the police department's Facebook page, the shooting occurred  at about 1:10 a.m., when a man, identified as Travis Manes, 26, broke into the home and was shot during a fight with the man and woman inside.

Police say all three knew each other and that the incident is domestic-violence related.

"They have several people they're interviewing right now that were on the scene at the time of the shooting," said Officer John Syme. "Right now we're wrapping things up; they've already collected all the evidence and there's a little bit going on still."

Manes is from Independence and his family has been notified of his death. Meanwhile, police continue to investigate the shooting death.
