KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Kansas City, Kan., police arrested the stepmother of a missing 7-year-old boy early Thursday morning.

The Wyandotte County Sheriff's office says she was arrested on a separate warrant from 2012, unrelated to the child's disappearance, but they have placed her on a 48-hour hold on suspicion of child abuse and suspicion of murder, for which she has not been charged. Heather Jones' husband, Michael, is also in jail, accused of assaulting her and torturing the boy known as 'AJ.'

On Thanksgiving, investigators found the remains of a child on property at 99th and Hutton where the Jones' lived, but have not confirmed that the remains are the boy's. The coroner did say that the remains belong to a child.

Heather Jones spoke to FOX 4 last week and said her husband killed his son. Jones says she told detectives that Michael repeatedly beat her and that he killed his son late in the summer. As the investigation continues, Michael Jones remains in jail on $10 million bond, charged with child abuse and aggravated assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
