Child waiting for bus near Northeast Middle School robbed at gunpoint

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police say that a child waiting at the bus stop was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday morning.

The robbery happened near Northeast Middle School at the intersection of Chelsea and Thompson at 8 a.m.

According to police, the suspect pulled up next to the child in a white Pontiac, jumped out and pointed a gun at him. The man demanded the boy's backpack and shoes.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male in his 20s and wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

Kansas City police and the school district are both investigating the incident.

The school district says they will provide additional security in the area when the robbery happened through the end of the week.
