SHAWNEE, Kan. -- Two people are in custody and awaiting charges Thursday morning after an alleged aggravated assault on police Wednesday night.

Police say two suspects fired shot at the officer during a police chase.

According to Shawnee police, the officer was in an unmarked police vehicle while conducting surveillance.

"Undercover officers were on a surveillance when a vehicle came into the area they were watching," Lenexa officer Dan Friesen said. "They left a few moments later, the officer followed a short time later the occupants in the vehicle began firing at the officers unmarked vehicle."

The officer tried to coordinate getting a marked police vehicle to intercept the suspect vehicle.  While doing so, the two people in the suspect vehicle began shooting at the officer.  They shot multiple rounds at the officer as they were driving.  Several police officers responded to assist, and the suspect vehicle was disabled with a tire deflation device.

The suspects, two adult males, were finally taken into custody in the 7300 block of Charles.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
