KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Chiefs will face a tough test Saturday against last year’s the Super Bowl champs, and the team is once again hosting a huge watch party at Power and Light.
Just like last weekend, Chiefs fans of all ages are invited to come down and watch the game on the big screen or inside one of the many restaurants surrounding the KC Live area.
The party starts at 2:30 p.m., and the first 5,000 fans to arrive will get a Chiefs Kingdom flag. KC Wolf, cheerleaders, Warpaint and former players will all be in attendance. Those who sign up at chiefskingdomrewards.com, will get two free drink tickets, too.
Similar to last weekend, everyone will be wearing their Chiefs gear. Many people have been rushing out to buy brand new Chiefs shirts, hats and other items this past week to show their team pride.
Employees at Kansas Sampler told FOX 4 that usually this time of year, Chiefs sales stall as they gear up for Sporting KC and the Royals.
"We've been getting significantly more gear in stock and customers are really looking for the new thing and what's unique and that's been really neat to help them find those items," Samantha Santos with the Kansas Sampler said.
But this year with the Chiefs winning a playoff game for first time in 22 years, they are still getting in new inventory and preparing to sell newly designed T-shirts should the team make it all the way to the Super Bowl for the first time in 46 years.
"They're the hottest team in the league right now," Chiefs fan Daniel Galan said. "This is their biggest test of the season going up against the Super Bowl champs. I believe if they can get past the Patriots, they are going to the Super Bowl, man."
The Chiefs fly out to New England Friday morning.
The Patriots are favored to win the game by five points, but New England’s offense is banged up and with the Chiefs defense playing like it has during this 11 game winning streak, this is a game the Chiefs can win.
"This city has some kind of magic going on right now," Galan said. "First time in forever that both of our Royals and Chiefs have made noise in the playoffs and it's just a good thing for the city, man. It's a good time, a good time to be a fan."
