KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Two people were killed early Friday morning in a car accident in Kansas City, Kan.
Police say the accident happened at 55th and Freeman around 12:50 a.m.
According to officers, the driver was speeding as they were heading south on 55th Street. At one point the driver hit a stump and a very large rock and went airborne. The car then went up an embankment in front of a house and crashed into a tree.
At one point, the crash caused a small fire but firefighters put it out quickly.
"It wasn't good," neighbor Amy Hilt said. "We weren't really told anything other than other than to just get away from the scene because it's not anything we should probably be looking at."
The victims were identified as 47-year-old Erica L. Cortez and 65-year-old Howard C. Levite. Both were residents of Leavenworth, Kan.
