KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A bold thief was caught on video stealing a Kansas City man`s vintage car from outside his south side home. What’s more is that police say the crime happened while the elderly man was dying in the hospital.
The vintage car heist lasted less than a minute, but 85-year-old Billy Jester’s sister is still seething in anger. Jester’s love for the cars started several decades ago.
“He always had at least four or five of them in different stages of repair,” Maezel Brown told FOX 4.
“He just would love to see them brought back to life.”
Brown says her big brother`s passion of collecting and refurbishing cool, antique cars also rubbed off on her.
“When I was young, this is what was the going thing; ‘55, ‘56 Chevy,” she said.
But now one of the late World War II Army veteran`s prized possessions is missing.
I’m so angry about this nonsense,” said Brown.
Police say two guys in a blue pickup truck pulled up to Jester`s front yard in Kansas City. You never see the driver in the video, but cops say the man seen in a gray hoodie, baseball cap and jeans, quickly hooked a chain to the 1941 Buick Special, and then the pair rolled off with the vintage car.
Jester died two days later.
“I just feel like they`re the same as grave robbers. They planned it so thoroughly. The day after Christmas. What kind of people are that?” Brown steamed.
She says car-snatching crooks stole her brother`s treasured wheels while Jester was dying after battling bone marrow cancer.
“To pick on somebody 85 years old who`s dying in the hospital, what scuzzbucket is the only word that I can think for those kind of people, you know?” she said.
She says she only wants justice for her late brother.
“I feel it violates Billy and it violates me and I`m determined, determined to see them get their just due,” Brown said.
Police say someone also recently stole Jester`s 2004 Cadillac. Right now police don`t know if the two car thefts are connected. If you have information that can help police make arrests, call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
