KANSAS CITY, Mo -- Investigators are looking into the cause of an overnight fire which destroyed a home in the 3900 block of East 72nd Street in Kansas City. Neighbors said a family was living in the home, including one person who passed away.

The call came down just after midnight on Sunday morning.

Local resident Earl Goodman woke up when he heard the noise coming from outside his window.

"I heard it but I was lying down in bed. There were so many police and fire department officials I decided I was going to go to check what was going on," Goodman said.

Heavy damage was done to the garage and second floor of the home.

The age and name of the victim have not yet been released.
