INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- A 16-year-old fell into a lake over the weekend, but he's the one who ended up in trouble with police.

Police also ticketed his girlfriend, and the teenagers are charged with trespassing on a lake behind Bass Pro Shop in Independence.

The teen's 17-year-old girlfriend, who was out on the lake with him, says she walked on the ice for a little bit, but felt afraid the ice would break. She says she tried to call her boyfriend back onto the shore, and as soon as she did, he fell in.

“The last thing that I yelled to him was get off the ice, and all I see is him go down. I was scared for him, and for myself,” Jonnie Cox told FOX 4.

Jonnie says her boyfriend is out of the hospital, and doing okay.  He has some bumps and scrapes though. His mother is also facing child endangerment charges, according to Jonnie and her mother.
