KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Winter is not over yet. So if you're looking something to do while stuck indoors, check out the FOX 4 film critics' thoughts on Hollywood's newest releases.

1) SPECTRE (PG-13)

Sony Pictures

RUSS

The latest James Bond adventure has the best opening scene ever. After that, it's a parade of Bond clichés.

Still, it may be overlong and the plot may be like 'kite dancing in a hurricane,' but Daniel Craig is solid, the women are beautiful and the cars are incredible. “Spectre” delivers all of the big screen mayhem a big budget movie can offer.

SHAWN says although "Spectre" isn't on the same level of "Skyfall" it's still top-tier Bond. He actually thought "Spectre" was well thought out and liked how it attempted to give the women in the movie a bit more substance than usual.

2) 99 HOMES (R)

Broad Green Pictures

RUSS

The real estate debacle of 2010 provides the background for a searing and intense social drama, “99 Homes.” Andrew McCarthy plays a desperate construction worker who sells his soul by joining forces with an ethically challenged businessman, played with steely relish by Michael Shannon. Shannon deserved an Oscar nomination for his terrific work in this excruciating but sharply written and directed drama.

SHAWN says Michael Shannon is flat-out terrific. How he didn't get nominated is almost a crime. "99 Homes" is as engaging as "The Big Short" and perhaps a bit more realistic.

3) CRIMSON PEAK (R)

Universal
SHAWN says "Crimson Peak" directed by Guierlmo del Toro is a stunning masterpiece. Meticulously crafted and acted with superb skill. This horror romance is fascinating to watch. But perhaps not for everyone.
