KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police say a driver was weaving in and out of lanes, and just wouldn`t stop for cops during a Monday afternoon chase.

Investigators say the high-speed chase finally ended off of Red Bridge Road after the man lost control of his vehicle and crashed in a backyard just beyond a tree line.

Cell phone video a neighbor shared with FOX 4 shows officers with their guns drawn when they arrived on the scene. Cops first spotted the driver near 35th and Propsect. From there, police say the guy drove in and out of oncoming traffic, ran a family off of the road, and almost caused several accidents.

After he crashed, Jennifer Gomez ran outside to see what happened after hearing the loud wreck.

“It was scary. I thought he was gonna shoot at our house. He started looking towards our house and I thought he was gonna try to come in, and I thought maybe he thought he would be able to make it to get into our house. I thought he was gonna take us hostage,” said Gomez.

Police say the driver was armed with a gun.

Police say the man threatened to take his own life, but eventually surrendered peacefully.

The man was then taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
