OSAWATOMIE, Kan. -- The Kansas Bureau of Investigation announced that former Osawatomie police chief Robert Butters was arrested on Thursday. The Miami County attorney filed charges against Butters that include aggravated intimidation of a witness, attempted interference with a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Those charges are related to an alleged incident that happened on Tuesday in Osawatomie.

According to KBI, Butters resigned his position as police chief in Osawatomie in January, and wouldn't say whether the resignation was related to this case, citing that it's an ongoing investigation. Butters had served as police chief from June 1, 2015 until his resignation last month, and cited personal reasons and family interests as his motivations for stepping down.

He's currently being held in jail on a $250,000 bond.
