OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — One person is in custody Thursday after firing shots at officers.

Officers were dispatched to the 10800 block of Mackey Street around 1:30 a.m., upon reports of a disturbance.

When they arrived, the reporting party told Overland Park officers that her boyfriend was possibly impaired and trying to find a gun inside of the apartment.

Police say they made contact with the man, but he refused to exit the bedroom of the apartment. Then at one point, the man began firing shots at officers from inside the bedroom.

Officers escaped the apartment without injury and without firing any shots at the man.

Officers say they were able to persuade the man to leave the apartment around 2:30 a.m. The man was then taken into custody and is awaiting formal charges.

No injuries were reported.
