KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- If you need a night in and are looking for a great movie to pick up to enjoy, check out FOX 4 film critics' reviews of this week's releases.

Open Road Films

Real Oscar bait, "Spotlight" tells the true story of the Boston Globe's investigation into the Catholic Church's suppression of information about abusive priests. This smart, well-written and beautifully acted ensemble drama may well be the best film about journalism since "All the President's Men."

The best thing I can say about the movie is that I forgot I was watching actors and got caught up in their realistic inquest.

Disney/Pixar scores again with the beautifully animated story of the adventures of a lost dinosaur. Yes, it's very derivative, but the small, inspired details make it work. If you sit down with the kids to watch this one, be sure to have some Kleenex on hand.

Strong performances from Chiwetel Ejiofor, Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman propel “Secret in Their Eyes,” an English-language remake of the 2009 Argentine drama that won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.

Roberts severely deglamorizes as an FBI agent whose daughter was brutally raped and murdered. Ejiofor plays a colleague obsessed for years with finding the killer and Kidman is a lawyer who helps out on reopening the case. If you can get past some of the plot’s eye-rolling coincidences and absurdities, then “Secret in Their Eyes,” might prove to be an enjoyably dark, brooding thriller.
