INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Family and friends gathered Saturday night to honor the teenage girl seriously injured in a horrific three-vehicle crash on Feb. 26.

Police said 17-year-old Shelley Cunningham had left school and was driving eastbound on 24 Highway at about 3 p.m. Within moments, police said a man in a stolen, white pick-up turned onto Parker and slammed head-on into the her vehicle.

Crews had to use the jaws of life to extract Cunningham from the wreckage of her vehicle. She was taken to a hospital, where she remains in serious condition.

Loved ones gathered on Saturday for prayer and reflection. Some of them have called her survival a miracle, but know that she faces a long road to recovery.
