JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. -- Johnson County Sheriff's Office posted to Twitter Monday that the search for a De Soto man believed to have been armed has ended with the subject being taken into custody without incident.

Deputies and other law enforcement agents spent more than three hours searching a residential area near 83rd and Valley Springs for the subject after someone called 911 and told dispatchers that a man in their home had armed himself with a handgun. Deputies say before law enforcement arrived on the scene, the man exited the home, which is what sparked the search.

Officers searched the Valley Springs Senior Apartments looking for the man, who witnesses say was much younger than the retired folks living in the neighborhood.

"He has a tattoo on his forehead right above his right eye as well as a tattoo on the neck on the right side," said Deputy Claire Young of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.

Young says deputies found a man matching that description in an open field near the senior apartments.

It is unclear why the man armed himself with a handgun and whether he threatened anyone, but sheriff's deputies say the incident may be a result of a domestic situation.

Deputies are expected to release more information regarding the situation Monday afternoon.
