KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- FOX 4's film critics, Shawn Edwards and Russ Simmons are breaking down which movies out on DVD are worth your time and which ones you'd be better off without seeing.

1) BROOKLYN (PG-13)

Fox Searchlight

RUSS

“Brooklyn” is an ‘old-fashioned’ romantic drama in the best sense of the term. Saorise Ronan stars in a love triangle about a teenage girl who, in the 1950s, leaves her Irish homeland to find work in New York.

SHAWN

"Brooklyn" is well-made and terrifically acted but bored me to death. It's a simple story that is somewhat moving. But an utterly conventional romance that fails to excite.

RUSS

It looks like it could have been made in Hollywood’s Golden Era…and that’s a very good thing.

2) SISTERS (R)

Universal

RUSS

In an obvious example of counter programming, Hollywood offers “Sisters,” a lame, raunchy comedy in the vein of "Bridesmaids," but it's beneath the talents of its gifted stars, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

SHAWN

"Sisters" proves that Tina Fey and Amy Poeler aren't always funny.

3) ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE ROAD TRIP (PG)

20th Century Fox

RUSS

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip” is the fourth in the combo live-action/computer animated series about the rowdy singing rodents. It’s a harmless comic distraction for the kids but it’s barely tolerable for parents.

SHAWN

Familiar annoyance.
