KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- KC police are investigating after a young father was fatally shot Monday afternoon, just weeks after moving to the metro area.

The shooting reportedly happened around 2 p.m. on the city's east side. Police said one male victim was shot in a parking lot at 18th Street and Topping Ave.

Witnesses said they noticed at least two men riding around the apartment complex in an SUV just before the shooting occurred. Moments later, they heard a single gunshot, and saw a man collapse in the parking lot. They said the SUV then sped off.

Relatives of the victim said he was shot in the face. He was just 25 years old, and the father of two toddlers. His girlfriend is pregnant with another child.

Family members said the victim, Demar D. Swift, moved to Kansas City just two weeks ago from Milwaukee.

"It's real hard, you know, and his mother lives in Milwaukee and I had to call her and tell her her son is dead, you know, which is my sister; she just lost it," said a family member

Police said while talking to a witness, the person pointed out someone walking down the street, away from the scene. That person then ran, but officers quickly caught him. It is still unclear at this time if that person is the suspected shooter.

They are still looking for the men in the SUV.
