INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — When Willie Nelson comes to Independence in April, fellow singer Merle Haggard will not be coming with him. The two were set to perform in The Willie Nelson & Family tour at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena on April 11.

Haggard is not well, though. He received doctor’s orders to complete his recovery from double pneumonia.

“I want to thank my fans for their prayers and well wishes. I hope to be back on the road in May, but I’m taking it one day at a time,” said Haggard in a news release.

Jamey Johnson and Ryan Bingham will perform ahead of Willie Nelson instead.
