KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police in Kansas City, Mo., are searching for a man who they believe tried to kidnap a high school student Thursday morning.

A 16-year-old student at Northeast High School says she was waiting for the bus around 7:15 a.m., near Van Brunt and St. John, when a man tried to force her to go with him.

The girl reported the attempted kidnapping to her school resource officer once she got to school. The resource officer then reported it to police and they are investigating.

The school district also sent a letter home to parents on Thursday warning them about the incident.

The girl describes the suspect as a black male, in his 40s, and she says he has a beard.

If you have any information to help locate the suspect call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474- TIPS.
