Bicyclist killed after being hit by car near Lydia and Highway 24

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- One man is dead after being struck by a car on Sunday.

The man was reportedly riding a bicycle near Lydia Avenue and 24 Highway when he was hit.

Police said there is evidence that the car was traveling eastbound when it crossed over into the other lane and struck the cyclist around 6 p.m. Sunday.

Police said the driver of the car kept driving for at least a block after hitting the cyclist.

The victim has not yet been identified, only that he is a male in his 30s.

The driver also took out a light pole when the accident happened. He is now speaking with police.

Authorities aren't yet clear if speed played a factor in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
