KANSAS CITY, Mo. – There were scary moments for a fan on Tuesday during Royals Opening Day at Kauffman Stadium.

A man needed medical attention after he was struck by a foul ball; this happened despite extended netting put in place during the offseason as an enhanced safety measure.

A woman at the game was mistakenly identified as the person hit by the foul ball. The woman left the game in an ambulance and taken to the University of Kansas Hospital, likely for an unrelated medical issue, which Royals representative Toby Cook said happens frequently at games.

Cook would not comment specifically on the fan struck by the ball, saying only that the fan did not require an ambulance. The incident serves as a reminder that even with safety nets, fans should always pay attention and be wary of balls batted into the stands.
