Mushroom hunter finds human remains, marking third metro investigation in two days

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says a man searching for wild mushrooms near I-435 and Truman Road on Tuesday found human remains, marking the third such discovery this week.

The sheriff's office says the man found the remains in a wooded area at about 7 p.m. on Tuesday. On Wednesday another mushroom hunter found remains near Wolcott and I-435 in Kansas City, Kan. In Kansas City, Mo., city workers found remains near 28th and Highland.

The remains found on Tuesday have been sent to the medical examiner's officer where an anthropologist will investigate further. The cause of death, nor any type of identification has been released about the person.
