Police investigating shooting and stabbing in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Police are investigating a violent incident involving a shooting and a stabbing in Independence on Sunday.

FOX 4's Megan Brilley was at the scene where a heavy police presence filled the area near North Liberty Street and Farmer Avenue.

Police said an altercation broke out between two men inside a residence around 7 p.m.

One of the men reportedly drew a gun and fired shots, while the other drew a knife and stabbed him. Neighbors reported hearing two gunshots.

The men were taken to local hospitals where they are recovering with non-life threatening injuries.
