ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A Starbucks customer in Florida said a note left on his coffee cup went too far, WJAX reports.

According to WJAX’s report, the cup read, “diabetes, here I come.”

The “white grande mocha” has 470 calories, and the clerk apparently thought he was making a clever joke, WJAX’s report says. But the customer, who has two sisters who suffered through diabetes, didn’t find it funny.

“That first word just automatically brought the picture of both of my sisters to my head,” the customer told WJAX.

The customer wrote his own note on the cup in response.

According to WJAX, the store manager insists, Starbucks doesn’t permit commentary of that kind. The company said it’ll take steps to ensure it never happens again.

“Seeing and knowing the struggle my sisters went through since third, fourth grade, it definitely struck a nerve,” the customer added during his interview with WJAX.
